• Syn

Eighteen years after its founding as one of Japan's first international music production companies, Syn was ready for a change.

They were months away from breaking ground on their new Marc Newson-designed office. Recording was still at the heart of their business, but their creative activities had expanded into live music booking, event production, and ad campaigns. Yet their web content was aging in a long-abandoned Flash site that no one at the company knew how to update.

Syn tapped AQ to join UK brand designers North as they redefine Syn’s visual communications.

Taking cue from the new four-color, four division identity system, we devised a website architecture that immediately communicates Syn’s full range of capabilities. From the home page, visitors can flip through a feed of news, music and video showing off Syn’s latest creations. For the first time, the site presents the full story of the Syn catalog, with mp3 previews, cross-linked with related releases, YouTube videos, news entries and links to the iTunes store.

Also a first for Syn, the HTML/Flash hybrid site is fully driven by a content management system, allowing Syn to share their newest idea, event or melody, not months, but hours after its creation.
